Extreme drought is one of the determining factors that can condition grasslands, so it is necessary to follow the evolution of the meadows with the first autumn rains to decide whether it is necessary to reseed and renew the meadows.
Short-term meadows (Italian) are usually renewed in the 2nd or 3rd year. Meanwhile, in the long duration (English) this renewal is usually done in the 4th and 5th year. If with the autumn rains the amount of ryegrass grass is low, it is recommended to renew it and sow it again.
Recommendations for fall planting
In general terms, for short duration pastures it is recommended to use the F-2 mixture for seeding. However, for long duration pastures, the F-4 mixture is indicated.
To achieve good yields, it is recommended to prepare the soil as well as possible and to use precision machinery and a seeding rate of 35-40 kilos per hectare.
A good fertilization will also be decisive for the grass harvest. Thus, it is advisable to apply slurry to fertilize the soil or 300 to 400 kilos of a winter fertilizer formula.
In addition to these general recommendations for grassland renovation, the Cooperative has specialized technicians who can provide the necessary agronomic indications to achieve good grass production in the grasslands.
