The change in the board of directors will be effective as of January 1. AIRA recognizes Ferreiro’s work over the years to coordinate the merger that gave rise to what is now the Cooperative and to promote outstanding projects of the same.
Cándido Cancelo Cabanas will be the new general manager of AIRA as of January 1, 2025, after the retirement of Daniel Ferreiro Otero, who leaves AIRA after two decades linked to the Cooperative and a career focused on the promotion of cooperativism and the agri-food sector.
Cándido Cancelo comes to AIRA after an outstanding professional career both nationally and internationally. Cancelo has more than 20 years of experience in the management and development of strategic projects in global markets and in different sectors. “AIRA is a reference in the agri-food sector and I hope to contribute to continue making this Cooperative a driving force in the Galician countryside, while remaining close to the 3,000 members who are part of it”, says Cándido Cancelo, new general manager of AIRA.
In these first months, Cancelo will count on the collaboration of his predecessor, since Daniel Ferreiro will continue to be linked to the Cooperative to facilitate this process of change in the Cooperative’s board of directors. “Having Daniel Ferreiro’s collaboration over the next few months will be useful for this transition to be carried out in an agile and orderly manner,” said Cándido Cancelo.
More than 20 years in the Cooperative
AIRA is grateful for the dedication and involvement of Daniel Ferreiro to the Cooperative during more than 20 years of trajectory. His work and dedication were decisive in key moments of the history and the journey of the Cooperative to become what it is today.
Ferreiro contributed to the understanding between the different cooperatives both for the creation of the Taboada feed mill, as well as in the integration that gave rise to AIRA in 2018. In addition, Ferreiro was key for some of AIRA’s outstanding projects to have become a reality, such as the dairy processing plant in Melide, the sustainable and exponential growth of the Cooperative itself or new lines of business such as the recent agreement with the firm García Baquero for the manufacture of cheese in Galicia with milk from partner dairy farms.
“Daniel Ferreiro has been the lighthouse that has guided us on the path of integration for the creation of AIRA and thanks to his work and tenacity have seen the light projects with which to achieve the valorization of the products of livestock farms and farms of AIRA members. We are deeply grateful for their dedication throughout all these years, always doing it in a close way and favoring understanding”, values José Manuel López Tellado, president of AIRA.
