The AIRA cooperative held this Wednesday, November 24, its annual assembly, after the Covid-19 has forced to delay the meeting with the partners until now. The agricultural entity presented the economic results of the last two exercises that show a growth of more than 25% since the integration process carried out in 2018. “We grow every year at a sustainable rate, above 8% in these last two fiscal years and we have done so in all areas”<\/i><\/strong>, explains Daniel Ferreiro, CEO of AIRA. <\/p>\n We grow every year at a sustainable rate, above 8% in these last two years and we have done so in all areas<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The cooperative from Lugo closed 2020 with a turnover of 125 million euros and a growth of 8.5%. Meanwhile, in 2019 AIRA achieved a turnover of 115 million euros, which represented a growth of 8.9%. The volume of turnover achieved, compared to around 98 million that they handled in 2017, is one of the clear indications of the consolidation of the integration project started three years ago. <\/p>\n We have not grown by increasing product profit margins, but rather we have increased turnover by increasing the volume of activities and services provided, which allows us to be more competitive and generate better results.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n “We have not grown by increasing the profit margins of our products, but we have increased our turnover because we have increased the volume of activities and services provided, which allows us to be more competitive and generate better results,” says Ferreiro.<\/i><\/strong>says Ferreiro.<\/p>\n In the assembly, which took place in the Taboada sports center and was conditioned by the Covid-19 prevention measures, other economic data were also provided, such as the level of EBITDA, i.e. gross profit before deduction of financial and tax expenses, where AIRA reached 4.7 million euros in 2020.<\/p>\n More salient than the growth in turnover is that we grow in volume of activity in all areas: in marketing and in the activities and services we develop<\/p><\/blockquote>\n AIRA is consolidated as a reference entity within the agricultural world, not only for the volume of business, but for the opportunities it generates in the rural world, with more than 250 direct jobs and the services it provides to more than 2,500 members in 86 municipalities of Galicia. “More salient than the growth in turnover is that we are growing in volume of activity in all areas: in marketing and in the activities and services that we develop,” Ferreiro emphasizes.<\/i><\/strong>Ferreiro emphasizes.<\/p>\n Another of the points that were discussed with the partners in the assembly were the projects that AIRA has underway for the valorization of the products of its partners, one of the priorities of the cooperative. One of the biggest investments in this sense is carried out in the milk processing plant Galacteum has been a very complex project, with a firm commitment to a differentiated product<\/p><\/blockquote>\n At present, AIRA markets 115 million liters of milk and processes almost 50% of the milk it collects. “In the last years we have increased our own processing and the forecasts for the next years are to continue growing in milk processing volume”, Ferreiro explains.<\/i><\/strong>says Ferreiro. The commitment to processing is also allowing them to increase the price of milk paid to their farmers, in a context like the current one where there is an increase in production prices, derived from the increases in raw materials and electricity, while the selling price remains stable in the market, which is putting the Galician dairy farms in really complicated situations. <\/p>\n In recent years we have increased our own processing and the forecasts for the coming years are to continue growing in volume of milk processing<\/p><\/blockquote>\n AIRA allocated about 12 million euros to investments, in which together with the processing of milk, the improvement of agricultural machinery has been one of the priorities for the entity, since it is also one of the priority areas for the members as they need these improvements in their daily lives.<\/p>\n The assembly also formalized the integration process of two new first degree cooperatives in AIRA: Coba de Vales<\/strong>, from Mes\u00eda (A Coru\u00f1a) and Mop\u00e1n<\/strong>, from Monterroso (Lugo). Thus, the members of AIRA, as those of the other entities had already done, ratified this merger. <\/p>\n The integration of these two cooperatives means a considerable increase in the number of members, since Coba de Vales has 345 members and Mop\u00e1n has 125 members.<\/p>\n The merger with these two cooperatives represents an increase in turnover of almost 1.8% while opening up new lines of business and projects. Thus, the adhesion of Coba de Vales provides new opportunities in the manufacture of feed, since this cooperative already had a feed factory. AIRA is considering starting a new production line of organic feed in these facilities. <\/p>\n Meanwhile, the proximity of the Mop\u00e1n Cooperative, located in Monterroso, a few kilometers from Taboada (where AIRA’s headquarters are located) and the common projects that the two cooperatives have been developing for some time led to their integration into AIRA.<\/p>\n At the assembly, the proposal for the continuity of the current governing council was also approved, since the agenda included the partial renewal of the same, including the president, treasurer and the odd number of members.
